Graphite Rankings assess the play calling efficiency of Offensive and Defensive play callers. Rather than measuring total offensive or defensive output, Graphite Rankings measure the degree to which a play caller makes calls that best align their team's strengths on their opponent's weaknesses. This assessment is quantified in a Play Calling Efficiency Ratio (PCER) - which measures how frequently a play caller makes the best possible call (from a data standpoint) in any given situation. For example, a PCER of 0.85 means that a play-caller is making the best possible play call 85% of the time. Aimed at specifically focusing on play calling, Graphite Rankings identify play callers that are doing a good job of putting their teams in the best possible position on each play. An offense or defense might be executing poorly or unable to matchup with another team, but their play caller may still be very good at getting the most out of them - that ability is what our Graphite Rankings capture.

RII Sports Technology has deep engineering roots in the Aerospace & Defense Industry; roots that are the inspiration for the name "Graphite". Graphite is a highly efficient engineering material - with a very low coefficient of friction and high electrical conductivity. In much the same way, these rankings capture the ability of a play caller to get the most out of their offense or defense.

Being in the right play calling position (SW: Strength-on-Weakness vs WS: Weakness-on-Strength) makes a big difference in Success Rate, Yards/Play and Expected Points Added:

WS: 40%6.5 yds/play-0.050 epa

DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE
